Desert Oasis went out to make a statement Friday night after it saw predictions calling for a close game against Bonanza.

The Diamondbacks succeeded, blowing out the Bengals 47-0 in an all-important Sunset Northwest division game to mock the prognostications.

“We wanted to show that we’re getting better and better,” Desert Oasis coach Brad Talich said.

Senior running back Tyshun McClinton did his usual damage, running for three touchdowns and more than 100 yards. Senior running back Marquis Smalls and junior quarterback Brannon Flowers also punched in rushing scores.

Flowers tossed a touchdown as well to sophomore wide receiver Jaden Mitchell.

Desert Oasis must now try to duplicate the fire next week against Cimarron-Memorial. The winner of the game looks to be in line for the league’s No. 3 seed.

“I bought a countdown to kickoff clock this summer and put Cimarron on there so we’ve had it on our wall for several months,” Talich said. “I told the kids this was the hurdle we needed to get over. Every time we lift, we look at the clock. We feel this could be a big one for our program.”
