Sandoval heads to China on trade mission

Gov. Brian Sandoval left Wednesday for a 10-day economic development trade mission to China.

The governor was accompanied by his staff, legislators from other states, economic development executives and the Desert Research Institute.

The trip is financed partly by the Council of State Governments and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development. There was no immediate estimate of how much the state will chip in.

The group will visit Xi’an, Nanjing, Shanghai and Beijing. It will focus on luring environmental sciences and tech commercialization.

The governor led a trade mission to China on 2012. There have not been any reports of Chinese firms moving to Nevada as a result of that trip.

Accompanying the governor are his Chief Strategy Officer Dale Erquiaga, Economic Development Director Steve Hill and Desert Research Institute President Stephen Wells. There are also three staff members from the state.

He returns Oct. 25.
