New committee will study Nevada water issues

CARSON CITY — The state Legislative Commission today agreed to appoint a special committee to study water issues and present recommendations to the 2017 session of the Legislature.

“We have to take a long, hard look at water or the lack of it,” said Sen. Pete Goicoechea, R-Eureka.

The commission named Goicoechea chairman of the committee but held off naming other members until its next meeting. There were suggestions about who should serve on the committee, but there was no consensus.

Goicoechea suggested the committee have six meetings, but the Legislative Commission put that decision on hold.
