The Bonanza football players had been in the locker room for about 20 minutes and they were still enjoying the victory.

The Bengals snapped a 15-game losing streak dating back to 2013 today with a 22-7 victory on the road at Yucca Valley, Calif. Some of the seniors in the program have just one win in their careers. Yes, they have every reason to celebrate.

“To come to California, where no one thought we had a chance to win, and earn (a victory). You can hear them. The kids are going crazy in the locker room,” Bonanza coach Kevin Volcic said. Volcic played at Yucca Valley, which is near San Bernardino. Tonight, he left the field where he played high school football dripping wet after his Bonanza players poured water on him to celebrate the win.

Last week’s narrow loss to Spring Valley, coupled with having success against a California opponent, signals the Bonanza program is on the right track.

“The confidence is getting built. We have some momentum,” Volcic said. “This is something the kids have never experienced.”

Bonanza, which led 16-0 at halftime, received a pair of touchdown runs and 243 rushing yards from Deshawn Williams. The other touchdown was a pass from Wyatt Allison to Jacob Perez.
