Mojave (3-1) stayed undefeated in league play with another impressive defensive showing in its 8-6 win over Sierra Vista (1-3) Friday night.

Senior running back Elijah Smoot carried the ball nine times for 85 yards, and Blake Fitzgerald scored the Rattlers’ only touchdown of the night on a 60-yard run.

“It was a tough defensive battle for both teams,” said Mojave coach Joe Delgado. “Sierra Vista played well and we were fortunate enough to make more plays than them tonight.”

It took one key play for Mojave to edge the Mountain Lions — a safety by senior defensive end Alex Carvalho.

“I’m proud of our boys playing four quarters and locking down defense in the fourth quarter, something we were not able to do last year,” Delgado said.

Next week Mojave takes on Faith Lutheran (3-1) in a game that will put the winner in the driver's seat for the Sunset division.
