Spring Valley (4-1, 2-1) continued its winning ways Friday night as the Grizzlies cruised past the Western Warriors (0-5, 0-3) 34-0.

The win has Spring Valley tied with Faith Lutheran for the best overall record in the Sunset division, and tied for second with a 2-1 league record.

The Grizzlies jumped on the Warriors from the beginning, as senior Raheem Edmonds intercepted Gregory Castenada and returned it 20 yards for a touchdown.

“(Edmonds) got us jumpstarted tonight with the interception return,” Spring Valley coach Marcus Teal said. “He made a bobbling catch after it got tipped at the line and made a great return.”

Spring Valley quarterback K.C. Moore continued his stellar year, completing 18-of-29 for 233 yards and two touchdowns.

His favorite target was senior receiver Antony Vasquez, who caught eight passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns.

It is the second straight time Spring Valley has shut out Western. The Grizzlies won 48-0 on Sept. 27, 2014.

“It’s always nice when your defense shows up to play each week,” Teal said.

And after starting the scoring off with a pick-six, Edmonds finished the Warriors off with a 20-yard touchdown run.

“Raheem is a senior this year and he really wants to do well,” Teal said. “He’s pulling double duty and he’s just a gamer. He really works hard, and he’s one of the guys you can count on every Friday night.”

Spring Valley will look to cement its place near the top of the division next week as it takes on Mojave, while Western is still looking to end its four-year losing streak.
