New Coach Marvin Menzies

New UNLV basketball coach Marvin Menzies appears before the media and invited guests Friday, April 22, 2016, offering his thoughts on the program’s future after the Nevada Board of Regents approved his contract.

The Rebels have another piece in place as big man Cheickna Dembele today committed to the program, multiple sources confirmed. Listed at 6-foot-11 and 220 pounds, Dembele was also getting interest from Michigan State and Syracuse, and he was set to take an official visit to Missouri next week.

Dembele, a native of Mali, Africa, played at Scotland Performance Institute in Scotland, Pa. He was on UNLV’s campus the past couple of days for an official visit, and new coach Marvin Menzies will happily welcome him back this summer as the staff continues to build a roster.

Dembele is the second commit Menzies has landed, following JUCO guard Kris Clyburn. The Rebels also have returners Dwayne Morgan, Tyrell Green, Jalen Poyser and walk-on Austin Starr, and there’s a chance that guard Jordan Cornish could return after he recently reopened his recruitment.
