Las Vegas dips into Washington franchise for its director of player development

The Las Vegas expansion NHL franchise is quickly assembling pieces of its front office.

Wil Nichol, formerly a scout with the Washington Capitals, was hired today as Las Vegas’ director of player development.

Nichol has been a scout in Washington since 2011, working with new Las Vegas General Manager George McPhee. Before that, Nichol was the coach at University of Wisconsin-Steven’s Point from 2007-11.

Nichol is the second hire this week for the expansion team. Tuesday, Kelly McCrimmon was announced as the team’s assistant general manager.
