UFC 202 breakdown, betting odds and picks

Oddsmakers have Diaz vs. McGregor II as a toss-up

Welterweight Conor McGregor talks trash about opponent Nate Diaz before fans during his work out for the media and others within the Red Rock Resort Spa & Casino on Thursday, August 18, 2016.

Ticket sales and hotel rates are down for the rematch between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor at UFC 202.

Betting action should only increase ahead of the fight tonight at T-Mobile Arena. Sports books took a healthy number of bets on UFC 196 in March, though the line on McGregor vs. Diaz was so large that it tempered overall volume.

McGregor was more than a 5-to-1 favorite before he got upset via second-round submission to Diaz. Escalated odds won’t be an issue in the second welterweight bout between the two.

McGregor is currently a narrow minus-125 (risking $1.25 to win $1) favorite with Diaz coming back at plus-105 (risking $1 to win $1.05). Most sports books had the fight as a straight pick’em for weeks before money started to come in on the McGregor.

The line is reminiscent of McGregor’s last fight before Diaz. He was in a pick’em against Jose Aldo in a fight that potentially set a record — the Nevada Gaming Control Board doesn’t tabulate the actual numbers — for the most wagered UFC bout ever.

Late money came in on Aldo, who lost by first-round knockout, to make McGregor a slight underdog at fight time. It remains to be seen what kind of last-second movement could happen ahead of tonight’s UFC 202, but the Sun’s picks panel has come to a surprising consensus on the main event.
