Bishop Gorman High senior forward Chuck O’Bannon Jr. verbally committed Thursday night to USC, picking one Los Angeles school over another.

He was also being courted by UCLA, where his dad, Charles, and uncle Ed led the Bruins to the 1995 national championship.

O’Bannon averaged 21 points per game last season for five-time defending state champion Gorman and is a consensus four-star recruiting prospect. He’s considered on the nation’s top 50 players for 2017.

The family took an official recruiting visit to USC in the fall and were overwhelmed with what the program had to offer. They wouldn’t let USC-UCLA rivalry stand in the way of the best college basketball fit.
