Marnell Gaming buying Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks

SPARKS — A casino company with holdings in southern Nevada is buying the Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks.

Marnell Gaming LLC confirmed the deal late Wednesday but declined to disclose the terms of the pending sales agreement.

The New York-based Global Gaming & Hospitality bought the 1,300-room Nugget from the Ascuaga family in 2013.

Nugget CEO Carlton Greer said in a statement the Marnell family has a "rich history in the gaming industry and shares our vision of a revitalized Nugget."

Marnell's portfolio includes the Colorado Belle and Edgewater casino resorts on the Colorado River in Laughlin.

Marnell Chairman and CEO Anthony Marnell III says they plan to renovate the 75,000-square-foot casino, the 110,000-square-foot convention center and eight restaurants, as well a complete renovation of the 800-room west tower.
