Suspect arrested in apparent beating death

A suspect has been arrested in the apparent beating death of a man during a fight Tuesday night near South Decatur and West Charleston boulevards, according to Metro Police.

Officers responded about 10:10 p.m. to a reported fight in a desert area near the 900 block of South Decatur Boulevard and found a man unresponsive in a tent, police said.

The man, whose identity has not yet been released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office, was taken to University Medical Center and pronounced dead, police said.

Detectives think the victim and a woman were in a tent when the suspect, 47-year-old Tracy Morrison, entered and began punching the man, police said.

Morrison fled and was found by police about 3 a.m. in the 5200 block of Harmony Street, about a mile away, according to police.

He was arrested on a count of first-degree murder and booked at the Clark County Detention Center, police said.
