Motorcyclist killed in crash with SUV in Henderson; traffic heavily delayed

A motorcyclist died after striking the side of an SUV in Henderson this afternoon, and traffic is heavily delayed in the area, according to police.

Henderson Police were called about 3:50 p.m. to West Lake Mead Parkway near Industrial Park Road, where the man was driving east when an SUV made a left turn in his path, police spokeswoman Michelle French said.

The motorcycle hit the SUV in the right rear side, and the motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to Sunrise Hospital with critical injuries, she said.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital, French said. His name will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

No other injuries were reported, French said.

Speeding by the motorcyclist and failure to yield by the SUV caused the crash, she said. It is too early to tell whether drugs or alcohol were factors.

Eastbound Lake Mead has reopened after police investigated. Traffic is backed up on the 215 Beltway, as drivers are unable to exit onto eastbound Lake Mead.

Traffic on westbound Lake Mead is moving slowly, she said.
