UNLV football dips back into Texas for latest commit

The UNLV football program has had success in recent years by taking under-the-radar high school recruits from Texas and turning them into all-Mountain West performers.

Tykenzie Daniels of Richmond, Texas, could be next.

The two-star defensive back verbally committed today to the Rebels, following in the steps of other raw-in-talent Texans — Devante Davis and Tim Cornett — who were recruited by Rebel wide receiver coach Cedric Cormier.

The 6-foot, 177-pound Daniels picked the Rebels over offers from Army, Lamar, New Mexico, Northwestern State and Sam Houston State, according to Rivals.com.

Cornett played just one season of varsity football and Davis was more of a track athlete, but Cormier saw potential in both to develop into quality college players.

Time will tell if he’s right with Daniels.

Signing day is Feb. 3.
