Via YouTube, California WR picks UNLV football over conference foes

This could be considered another victory for UNLV's Tony Sanchez and his staff on the recruiting trail.

Mekhi Stevenson of Helix High in California verbally committed tonight to the Rebels, picking them over Mountain West foes Colorado State and Utah State.

Stevenson used a video on YouTube to make his announcement.

The 6-foot, 180-pound Stevenson, who had 36 catches for 775 yards and 10 touchdowns last fall, originally committed last spring to San Jose State.

UNLV and perennial league power Boise State are battling for the best recruiting class in the Mountain West, as measured by evaluating service Rivals.com. Considering the Rebels usually have one of the league’s — and nation’s — worst classes, next week’s signing day will be historic.

With about nine three-star recruits, it could be considered UNLV’s best all-time class. At the very least it will give Sanchez player depth, something his team clearly lacked in a 3-9 season in 2015.
