Carl Crayon is often one of the most undersized players on the basketball court.

But Eldorado High’s 5-foot-9, 160-pound senior is enjoying a breakout season, leading his team to a 4-2 record in the Southeast League and on the verge of an unlikely playoff berth. Crayon, who averages 15 points per game, is our Wingstop Player of the Week.

Eldorado missed the playoffs last season and graduated many key contributors from that team. But they still have Crayon, who has become of the league’s most productive players.

“I like to pass the ball. I’m a team player,” he said. “My teammates depend on me scoring, but I don’t like to do that. When it’s time for me to take over, I can do that. But I’d rather share the ball.”

The four Southeast wins have come from a combined 21 points, including a one-point victory this week against Basic and a four-point victory earlier this against Rancho. With the exception of a 14-point loss against league-leading Coronado, most of Eldorado’s games aren’t decided until the final minutes.

That’s when Crayon and teammates have been at their best.

“We play as a team. We share the ball and make sure each and everybody knows their role,” he said.

Eldorado likely needs to win two of its final four league games to make the postseason, which would give Crayon a great ending to his high school career. Few expected Eldorado to be in this position. And few expected Crayon this good.

“I don’t play like I am undersized,” he said. “I play like any other guard. I’m faster and more agile, and able to do things other guards can’t.”

Wingstop provides the Player of the Week a $50 gift card.
