Strip casinos to go dark for Earth Hour on Saturday

Earth Hour 2011

Glenn Pinkerton | Las Vegas News Bureau

The Strip goes dark during Earth Hour on March 26, 2011, to show support for energy conservation.

The Las Vegas Strip will go partially dark Saturday in an effort to raise climate change awareness.

Casinos along Las Vegas Boulevard including Caesars Palace, MGM Grand, Luxor, Planet Hollywood and Excalibur will dim their exterior lights Sunday from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. as part of Earth Hour.

This year will be the seventh time Las Vegas has taken part in the environmental event.

Other notable locations to go dark include the Eiffel Tower and the Acropolis. More than 162 countries participate in the hour. The annual event was created in 2007 by World Wildlife Fund.
