Week 1 ruled

Las Vegas Sun sports editors Ray Brewer and Case Keefer recap a particularly memorable week 1 in Las Vegas high school football that included Bishop Gorman obliterated a Texas power and two games between top five teams that came down to the final minute.

The Foothill High football team trailed visiting Desert Hills of Utah by one touchdown at halftime before losing 27-0.

“The game was a lot closer than the score indicated,” Foothill coach Marty Redmond said. “They had good field position a few times in the second half, and we couldn’t stop them on fourth down.”

Marquies Jerkins had an interception for Foothill.

“That was a good football team,” Redmond said of Desert Hills. “They were really big and good up front. That defensive line is probably as good as we will see all year.”
