Street-performer brothers arrested on robbery counts in Strip encounter

Two Las Vegas street performers were arrested on suspicion of felony robbery after they allegedly got physical with a woman who had her photo taken with them.

According to the men’s arrest report:

Brothers Leonard and Rashad Richardson, who appear on the Strip shirtless and wearing camouflage pants, approached the woman and her female friend Aug. 28 in the 3500 block of Las Vegas Boulevard South. Rashad Richardson grabbed the woman by the shoulders and asked if she wanted to take a photo; her friend took a photo of her standing with Leonard Richardson, who told the friend to take another photo.

As the two women tried to walk away, Rashad Richardson told the woman who was photographed that the photos cost $20. When she handed him $10 and tried to walk away, he grabbed her by the arm “with enough force” to stop her and repeated that she owed $20.

The woman said she only had a $100 bill, then eventually paid in $1 bills. After the encounter, she told nearby Metro Police officers that the encounter had frightened her and she’d felt coerced.

The officers recognized and tracked down the brothers, who said their tactics had been misinterpreted.

“I have no reason to steal $20 from somebody,” Rashad Richardson told investigators. “I lose more money just being here.” His brother told them he hadn’t robbed anyone.

Police confiscated the brothers’ property, which included two air pistols, about $1,500 in cash and an American flag. The men were jailed on one count each of robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. Both have been released on bail and have a court appearance set for Dec. 19.
