North Las Vegas Ward 3 Councilwoman Anita Wood will have to defend her seat against Scott Black this summer.

Neither candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote during the municipal primary election, so as the top two finishers they will face off in a runoff election on June 13.

Wood received 977 votes, or 30 percent. Black received 1,081 votes, or 33 percent.

Eliminated from the race were former Clark County Commissioner Tom Collins (who received 11 percent of votes), youth pastor Ender Austin III (5 percent) and retired North Las Vegas Police Lt. Wilson “Will” Crespo (21 percent).

Wood has represented Ward 3 since 2009. She serves on several boards, including the North Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency and the Southern Nevada Water Authority.

Wood said she was "excited" about heading to a runoff election and said it would give her campaign an opportunity to further focus on the issues and qualifications now that there will only be two candidates.

She added, “We're going to make the best of it and move forward from here.”

Black is a Clark County native who graduated with a communications degree from UNLV. He worked for United Parcel Service for 13 years before opening his own small business, according to his official website.

He said he was humbled by the support of his friends, neighbors and volunteer team.

"My goal (now) will be to reach out and talk to as many people as possible at their doors to listen to them and hopefully continue to keep our city on the right track," he said.

Elsewhere on the ballot, North Las Vegas Mayor John J. Lee and Ward 1 Councilman Isaac Barron easily defeated their challengers to win re-election.

Lee received 6,724 votes, or 81 percent. Challengers Gary Bouchard and DeQuincy “Quincy” Taylor received 10 and 9 percent of votes, respectively.

Barron secured 896 votes, or 82 percent, defeating Hector Rivera, who earned 201 votes, or 18 percent. Barron has represented Ward 1 since 2013.

Candidates who secure more than 50 percent of the vote during the municipal primary are declared the winner and no runoff election is held.

The general election will be held June 13.
