Letters to the Editor:

Congresswoman responds to letter

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to the letter to the editor written by Carol Mittwede, published on March 31 under the headline “Removing barriers to colorectal cancer screening act.”

Carol, first, I would like to thank you for taking the time to write on this important issue and for volunteering your time to help advocate on behalf of families affected by cancer. You’ve taken action with your words and I appreciate your passion for this cause.

As your representative, I am honored to be able to serve my constituents. It’s my job to listen and work on their behalf. That’s I was proud to co-sponsor the Removing Barriers to Colorectal Screening Act after reading your letter in the Las Vegas Sun.

This bill would make it easier to treat colorectal cancer, currently one of the leading causes of death in the United States. When I was a caregiver for my aging parents, I experienced firsthand the toll that illness can take on families, friends and loved ones. Sickness should never lead to families going bankrupt. This legislation would ease the burden on families under Medicare by providing additional coverage for preventative colorectal procedures. Better preventative care for seniors results in fewer cases of cancer, reduced costs, and more important, fewer deaths.

Our government works when we have input from our citizens. We have a lot of work to do, but I am determined to listen to the people I represent in Nevada. Now, more than ever, the American people must make their voices heard by engaging on the issues that matter to them most.

I hope you will continue to stay informed on what is happening in our nation’s capital. Know that my door is always open. I encourage my constituents to write my office or email me by visiting my website rosen.house.gov.

Follow me on social media to stay up to date on what I am working on in Washington. Your voice matters and I will make sure that you are heard.
