Video: Metro officer buys boy new bike after old one stolen

Moved after taking a report of a stolen bicycle, a Metro Police officer this week surprised a boy by showing up at his house and unloading a new bike from his patrol vehicle, a scene captured in a social media video that has gone viral.

The bike was stolen about six weeks ago, forcing the boy, identified only as Jordan, to wake up early and walk to school instead of riding, according to a Metro post on Facebook.

Using his own money, Officer Marc Evans this week bought Jordan a new bike and lock, just in time for the boy’s birthday.

“Officer Evans was moved by Jordan’s situation and wanted to make sure he gets to school ready to learn (not tired),” his sergeant wrote in the Facebook post.

In the video, Jordan follows Evans to his cruiser and the officer pulls the bike out. “It’s the same one,” Jordan says, smiling and thanking the officer. After Evans shows him the lock and puts it on the bike, Jordan takes a spin down the street.

As of this morning, the video had been viewed more than 143,000 times and shared about 6,000 times.

Evans works in Metro’s Northeast Area Command.
