Man, 33, killed when SUV runs onto median, flips

A 33-year-old Las Vegas man was killed Thursday when the SUV he was driving flipped over after running onto a median and hitting a fire hydrant and landscaping boulders, according to Metro Police.

The crash happened about 8:15 p.m. on Decatur Boulevard at Vegas Drive.

The SUV was headed north, crossing the intersection, when it veered onto the raised median, hit the hydrant and large boulders and went airborne, police said. It then hit a steel utility pole and flipped onto its roof, police said.

The driver, who was not identified pending notification of his family, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Debris from the crash hit a car stopped in the southbound left turn lane, but the driver of that vehicle was not hurt, police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
