CARSON CITY — The state Senate has approved a bill to help install solar energy systems for low-income people and promote building energy stations to charge electric vehicles.
Sen. Pat Spearman, D-North Las Vegas, said Senate Bill 145 sets aside $1 million annually for five years for installation of solar systems for low-income residents and at homeless shelters.
The measure also sets up a demonstration program for utilities and others to set up electric car refueling stations. Those who build the stations would be entitled to an incentive. A utility would be allowed to recover costs of the program.
The bill, which now goes to the Assembly, requires the state Public Utilities Commission to adopt regulations for incentives for those who install energy-storage systems in their homes and businesses.
The vote today was 20-1, with Sen. Don Gustavson , R-Sparks, dissenting.
