Pedestrian hit, killed by RTC bus

A pedestrian was hit and killed by a Regional Transportation Commission bus this morning in the northeast valley, according to Metro Police.

The crash happened about 2:30 a.m. on North Las Vegas Boulevard, near Lamb Boulevard, police said.

The 60-year-old man was standing with a shopping cart in the northbound travel lane when he was hit by the bus, police said. He was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

“We are deeply saddened by this morning’s fatal accident,” RTC spokeswoman Angela Castro said in a statement. “We extend our condolences to the victim’s family as well as to the passengers and the driver who were aboard the bus. The RTC is committed to helping to ensure public safety, and we are working closely with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department as it continues to investigate the incident.”

Las Vegas Boulevard was closed for about five hours in the area, police said.
