McCarran International Airport had its busiest March in history, accommodating 4.2 million passengers, according to statistics released today by the Clark County Department of Aviation.

The number represents a 3.2 percent increase from March 2016. The previous high for the month was 4.19 million passengers in March 2007.

This is only the fourth time in McCarran history that passenger volume has exceeded 4.2 million passengers in a single month, an airport spokeswoman said. The highest single-month passenger count at McCarran was 4.3 million in August 2007.

So far in 2017, 11.3 million passengers have passed through the airport, a 2.2 percent increase from the year-to-date total in 2016.

Southwest Airlines, the airport’s leading domestic carrier, had 1.5 million passengers in March, a .8 percent increase from March 2016. Spirit Airlines, the airport’s fifth-largest domestic carrier, with almost 291,000 passengers in March, had a 15.2 percent increase from the same month in 2016.
