Suspected DUI driver is arrested after central-valley pedestrian death

A driver involved in a fatal auto-pedestrian crash Wednesday night near Martin Luther King and Lake Mead boulevards was arrested on suspicion of being drunk, according to Metro Police.

Mattie Harris, 59, is being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center on one count of DUI, jail logs show.

The crash was reported about 9:40 p.m., police said. The male pedestrian died at the scene.

According to a preliminary investigation, the pedestrian was crossing outside of a designated area when he was struck by Harris’ 2008 Nissan Altima in the middle lane of Lake Mead.
