Lyft’s partnership with with Hertz, in which drivers can rent a car to earn income, recently marked its millionth ride.

Two years after two transportation giants teamed up, the pair is celebrating a milestone ride.

Lyft and rental car company Hertz recently celebrated providing 1 million rides in Southern Nevada through their Express Drive Rental Car Program. The program has helped hundreds of drivers without vehicles to earn money through the rideshare app.

The two transportation companies partnered in 2015 to allow drivers to rent a car so they can drive for Lyft. The program is now in 19 cities nationwide.

"We are giving people the opportunity to be a part of Lyft without owning a car, an opportunity they would not have without the Hertz program," said Yacob Girma, Lyft Las Vegas general manager. "A million rides is something to be celebrated. This is a big deal for our local economy, and we have Hertz and our amazing drivers to thank for that!"

The rental cars can also be for personal use. Insurance and maintenance are included in the rental cost, making it a simple way to start driving and earning.

"I have been in the Hertz program for over a year, and it has given me the opportunity to drive a brand-new car and not worry about car maintenance," Lyft driver Adrienne Weems said. "I have met passengers from all around the world, and I wouldn't have been able to do that without Lyft and Hertz."

Interested participants in the Lyft-Hertz program can apply online or via the Lyft app.

There are two locations in Southern Nevada where drivers can participate in the Lyft program. One is at the Dollar Rent-A-Car/Hertz, 4775 Swenson St., near McCarran International Airport; the other is the Hertz center in North Las Vegas, 2860 E. Craig Road.

The typical cost of a weekly rental for a compact car runs $180 per week, with the price dropping for those who drive more, who in turn make more profit, Lyft officials said.

Drivers can renew their rental via the app every seven days by tapping the "Renew" button under the image of their vehicle on the "Vehicles" tab. After 28 days, to renew again, drivers are required to renew in person at the Hertz location. Hertz will inspect the car and approve it, or service it if needed.

The program may soon partner up with Pep Boys locations across the valley to add areas where drivers can participate in the program.
