A teenage security guard at a northeast valley apartment complex is accused of fatally shooting a man and wounding a girl Thursday after exchanging words in the pool area, according to Metro Police.

Malik Kendrick, 19, was arrested and booked at the Clark County jail on counts of murder and attempted murder following the shooting about 5:15 p.m. in the 6800 block of East Lake Mead Boulevard, police said.

After exchanging words with the man and a 14-year-old girl, Kendrick went to a vehicle, got a gun and changed into a hoodie, police said. He then returned to the pool area and fired toward the victims, police allege.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The girl, who suffered a gunshot wound to the hand, was taken to University Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said. The names of the victims have not yet been released.

Kendrick remained at the property and was contacted by police, officials said.
