Letters to the Editor:

System works in Canada

The author of the recent letter, “Single payer won’t work,” stated that 58,000 Canadians came to the U.S. for health care last year.

But that’s just 0.16 percent of the population. That means 99.84 percent got their health care in Canada. I don’t see this as evidence that their single-payer system isn’t working. The writer’s suggestion that the government should reach out to the private health care industry for a solution is counter to the reality of our situation. They are the ones who are taking the U.S. citizens to the cleaners. In the end, the taxpayers pick up the tab on unpaid medical. The best solution is a single-payer system that allows everyone to participate financially and puts some control on the huge profits made by the health care industry.
