Henderson welcoming top fisherman for tournament

For the second straight year, 200 of the top professional bass anglers on the West Coast will gather in Henderson as they vie for $150,000 in cash and prizes at nearby Lake Mead.

The Wild West Bass Trail announced today it will conduct the 2017 Lucas Oil Western Classic Championship from Sept. 8 to 10 in Henderson.

“We are thrilled to host the championship bass fishing event for a second time,” said Barbra Coffee, director of the Henderson Economic Development and Tourism Department. “We hope the anglers experience all that Henderson has to offer during their visit. We are excited for this year’s event and look forward to working with Wild West Bass Trail on future events.”

A fishing seminar will be held at the Henderson Convention Center, 200 Water St., on Sept. 6 where fans can get tips from fishing pros.

Then comes the championship fishing event, with 2 p.m. fish weigh-ins each day of the tournament at the Callville Bay Marina on Lake Mead.

“Our anglers have fished at some of the best lakes on the West Coast to qualify for this championship,” said Gary Dobyns, co-owner of the Wild West Bass Trail. “We have seen an amazing display of competition this year and are ready to see who will take home the title.”
