Best Bets: Rod Stewart, Gipsy Kings, Foreigner and more for your Las Vegas weekend

Gipsy Kings

The Gipsy Kings perform at Red Rock Resort’s pool this weekend.

Is the Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor superfight such a big deal that it sucks up all the oxygen on the Strip? Yes, but no — there are plenty of other entertainment options to explore whether you’re into the big bout or not, and you don’t have to hit Las Vegas Boulevard to have some fun.

RANCID & DROPKICK MURPHYS These two legendary punk rock bands — from San Francisco’s East Bay and Boston’s equally rowdy music scene, respectively — are only the top of the bill for this stellar concert at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center Friday. Also bringing the noise are ska outfit The Selecter and Reno singer-songwriter Kevin Seconds. Aug. 25, info at 800-745-3000 or dlvec.com.

ROD STEWART: THE HITS If you’re thinking of catching the British rock icon at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace this weekend, consider the Sunday night show, when he’ll be joined by pop band DNCE for “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?” in a performance that will be part of the MTV Video Music Awards broadcast. Aug. 26 & 27 (and continuing Aug. 29 and Sept. 2 & 3), info at 866-227-5938 or thecolosseum.com.

BIG3 BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP The first-year, three-on-three, half-court pro basketball league featuring former NBA players wraps it up with the championship game at the MGM Grand Garden Arena Saturday. The undefeated Trilogy, captained by Kenyon Martin and Al Harrington, take on the 3 Headed Monsters, featuring Rashard Lewis and Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, while the third- and fourth-ranked teams battle it out in an earlier consolation game. GIPSY KINGS The best-known Flamenco band in the world stops in at the Red Rock Resort for a poolside concert Saturday night, 25 years after debut album “Allegria” made the group famous. The Gypsy Kings' most recent album, 2013’s “Savor Flamenco,” won a Grammy for Best World Music Album. New York singer, songwriter and violinist Simi Stone opens. FOREIGNER & CHEAP TRICK The Cosmopolitan’s Chelsea concert hall is packing all of this into one show: “Feels Like the First Time,” “Urgent,” “Hot Blooded,” and all the other hits from multiplatinum rockers Foreigner; “I Want You to Want Me,” “Surrender,” “The Flame,” and all the other hits from genre-spanning rock institution Cheap Trick; and “Whole Lotta Love,” “Black Dog,” “Kashmir,” and all the other Led Zeppelin hits performed by drummer John Bonham’s drummer son Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience. That’s a lot. Aug. 27, info at 702-698-7778 or thecosmopolitanlasvegas.com.
