Robots not able to do all jobs properly

Every once in a while I must respond to one of your articles, and the story about automation as a job killer (“Real jobs killer is automation, not China,” Las Vegas Sun, Dec. 24) is one of them.

Years ago we implemented the “phone menu.” At times it takes a full minute or longer to go through an exhaustive extension list, offers for products, surveys and a lot of information I didn’t call to ask about. It is a huge time waster and frustrating because I often have just a single question.

How I love it when a human being answers the phone and offers thoughts or suggestions that a robotic prompter cannot do, or maybe a simple yes or no is all I need.

I say let’s get rid of the robots and hire thousands of real people who could have regular work — it just takes a desire for customer service done right.
