Police searching for suspect in morning shooting at east valley nightclub

A shooting at an east valley nightclub this morning left a patron dead and waitress wounded, according to Metro Police.

First responders were dispatched about 7 a.m. to OK Corral bar and nightclub in the 1600 block of Nellis Boulevard, near Owens Avenue, where they found patrons providing aid to the man who’d been shot multiple times, Metro Lt. Dan McGrath said. He died near the establishment’s doorway.

The waitress, who police believe was an innocent bystander, was shot in her thigh and has since been released from University Medical Center, McGrath said.

An initial investigation determined the shooter — described as a thin Hispanic man — got into a dispute with the victim, McGrath said. The suspect left and returned to fire multiple rounds near the bar.

The suspect ran out of the business and climbed a neighborhood wall as he was being chased by a security guard, McGrath said. Metro officers were not able to locate him.

Detectives are looking to speak to the patrons who were present before and at the time of the shooting, when there were more than 30 people in the establishment, McGrath said.

The shooter was further described as being between 25 and 30 years old, McGrath said. He used prescription glasses and had his hair in a ponytail. He wore a checkered-pattern shirt, jeans and cowboy boots.
