Proposed rule would require businesses to file electronic wage, insurance reports

CARSON CITY — The state Division of Employment Security begins a series of “listening sessions” Tuesday regarding a proposed regulation to require businesses to submit their insurance and wage reports via computer beginning in July 2018.

The division will have hearings in various cities in Northern Nevada until July 21.

The sessions then move to Southern Nevada: Aug. 1 in Las Vegas; Aug. 2 in North Las Vegas and Mesquite; and Aug. 4 in Henderson.

The proposed penalty for noncompliance would be $5 plus one-tenth of 1 percent for each late month, based on payments due the agency.

The rule would grant a one-year extension if employers aren’t automated and it would cause a severe economic hardship.

After the hearings, the division may make amendments and then adopt the regulation.
