The Golden Gate hotel-casino in downtown Las Vegas will double its casino size as part of a major renovation announced Thursday.

The 111-year-old property will also add a dramatic entry way on Fremont Street Experience and extend OneBar at One Fremont Street, according to a press release.

“Since opening in 1906 as Hotel Nevada, Golden Gate has played a key role in the growth and success of Downtown Las Vegas,” CEO Derek Stevens said. “We are thrilled to continue Golden Gate’s incredible narrative and evolution, while also contributing to the area’s ongoing revitalization.”

Golden Gate also completed a major expansion in 2012, including the addition of a five-story hotel tower, a new lobby and new exterior.

Golden Gate will be closed Aug. 20-25 for a significant construction phase, the press release said.

About 100 slots will be added to the casino floor. The focal point will be a 360-degree, 24-foot tower of televisions, displayed as if the TVs are emerging from a fountain. The casino will also feature a crystal chandelier, composed of spirals cascading downward in tiers of beveled mirror accents.

The Golden Gate’s redesigned Fremont Street façade will include velvet drapes inspired by the Jazz Age. Gold medallions will adorn the drapery

Stevens, who also owns the D Las Vegas, has not announced plans for the 18th Fremont St. hotel-casino project.
