A special education teacher from Ruthe Deskin Elementary School was arrested today in connection with the corporal punishment of a student, according to Clark County School District Police.

Kathryn Navrides, 31, was being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center on a count of child abuse or neglect, jail records show.

She was arrested without incident, police said.

The arrest came after a judge approved a warrant stemming from an incident reported April 25 in which Navrides is accused of physically punishing a student, police said.

The incident was investigated by Clark County School District Police and Clark County Child Protective Services, police said. No additional details about the incident were released.

Navrides has been with the School District since August 2009, police said.
