Spaghetti Bowl

Project Neon, the largest construction project in state history, is expected to improve the flow of traffic along the Spaghetti Bowl, where Interstate 15, U.S. 95 and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard intersect.

Transportation officials and motorists are bracing for big traffic tie-ups near downtown Las Vegas with a next phase of work to improve the state's busiest freeway interchange.

U.S. Highway 95 will be squeezed from three lanes to two in each direction beginning at 9 p.m. today just west of the Interstate 15 "Spaghetti Bowl" interchange.

The Nevada Department of Transportation says the lane shifts will be in effect for 10 months, until next January.

Works plan to build a new flyover ramp more than 80 feet above the main roadway to connect carpool lanes on the two freeways.

It's all part of a $1 billion "Project Neon" project to help traffic flow through an I-15 chokepoint about midway between Los Angeles and Salt Lake City.

The interchange sees 300,000 vehicles daily.
