Thousands expected to join union march on the Strip today

A large-scale, multi-union march is set for Las Vegas today in association with May Day.

The May Day March Coalition, made up of more than a dozen unions and advocacy groups, will take part in the event, demonstrating support for worker and immigrant rights.

Organizers expect up to 7,000 participants in the march, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the corner of Spring Mountain Road and Las Vegas Boulevard. From there the marchers will proceed south down Las Vegas Boulevard to Flamingo Road and head west over the Interstate 15 bridge to an empty lot near Hugh Hefner Drive, next to the Palms.

The entire march is expected to take 45 minutes.

The Nevada Department of Transportation issued a traffic control permit for restrictions along Flamingo Road, to ensure the safety of those participating in the march. Free shuttles will be available to transport participants back to the starting area.

NDOT officials urge that motorists should use caution while traveling through the impacted area and take alternate routes, if possible.
