Ex-Syracuse football safety Chauncey Scissum transferring to UNLV

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Former Syracuse football safety Chauncey Scissum will play out his final year of eligibility at UNLV, he announced Monday night on social media.

The Rochester-area native had announced his intention to transfer after last season.

He developed into a defensive starter by his redshirt sophomore season but saw a decreased role last season. In 30 career games, he finished with 48 tackles.

Last year, he survived a horrific attack at an on-campus, outdoor party in which he was repeatedly stabbed by former teammate Naesean Howard.

At Howard's sentencing hearing three months ago, Scissum's mother said two teammates saved her son's life the day of the attack.

Scissum was stabbed in the right side of his neck, right upper chest, left shoulder and bottom lip, according to police. He recovered from his injuries and appeared in six games last season.
