History teacher earns praise

In conjunction with Teacher Appreciation Week, May 8-12, I’d like to recognize a teacher who has made a difference in my life this school year.

Mrs. Nichole Shoning is my 11th grade history teacher at Nevada Virtual Academy. She has has shown me a great deal of compassion and understanding. She always helps me when I am not doing well in class, even if it isn’t her class. She takes the time to check in and see how I am doing and reminds me that she is just an email or phone call away.

Mrs. Shoning has made learning in her class very enjoyable. She has a happy, bubbly and energetic personality that shows through her lessons. My classmates would agree that history class is more gratifying because of her enthusiastic demeanor and funny jokes.

I really appreciate how she frequently updates our grades, advises the class on where we stand, and asks how she can assist if we need help. She feels like family to us because she cares so much about our grades and our future.

I wish more teachers were like her. I encourage everyone reading to support school choice. Without it, I would never have had the opportunity to learn from someone as amazing as Mrs. Shoning.
