Coroner IDs man who died following police neck restraint

A man who died Sunday after he was tazed, punched and put into a neck restraint by Metro Police on the Strip has been identified.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office identified him as Tashii Brown, 40, of Las Vegas. The cause and manner of death are still pending.

The incident happened about 1 a.m. at a Las Vegas Strip hotel, police said.

Brown, who approached two officers inside the hotel, was acting erratically and said “people were chasing him,” according to police. He then ran into a secured area of the property as the officers chased him, police said.

Once outside the back of the hotel, Brown attempted to get into someone else's pickup truck, and officers shocked him with a Taser, police said.

Brown continued to fight with police, and one officer hit him with a closed fist multiple times before applying a lateral vascular neck restraint, police said. Brown went unconscious and was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
