Motorcyclist killed in crash; SUV driver faces DUI count

A motorcyclist was killed Sunday night after he was thrown through the window of an SUV driven by a suspected drunk driver, according to Metro Police.

The crash happened about 7 p.m. on Windmill Lane near Bermuda Road, police said.

James Vermillion made a left turn in a Ford Explorer in front of the motorcycle, which hit the passenger side of the SUV, according to police.

The 20-year-old Las Vegas man riding the motorcycle was thrown through the front passenger side window, and his helmet hit Vermillion, severely injuring his head and face, police said. The SUV continued then hit a parked car, police said.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, and Vermillion was taken to University Medical Center with serious injuries, police said. Vermillion showed signs of impairment and was booked in absentia on a count of DUI involving a death, according to police.
