As it promised last year, the Cosmopolitan has begun charging for parking.

Guests of the Strip resort and others who wish to valet or use the self-parking garage will have to pay for what resorts traditionally provided for free until last year.

Members of the casino’s Identity reward program who have achieved gold status don’t have to pay for valet parking and those who drive motorcycles or other two-wheeled vehicles can self-park for free, according to the casino’s website.

For valet parking, the fees are $13 for up to four hours, $18 for four to 24 hours, and $18 per day for each day after the initial 24 hours.

For self-parking the first hour is free, then it’s $7 for up to four hours, $10 for four to 24 hours and $10 for each additional day.

In addition, the resort will have special pricing during events, generally between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. Identity members and registered hotel guests are not subject to event pricing.

Unlike other hotels, the Cosmopolitan is not hiring an outside firm to manage parking services. A company spokesperson said managing and operating all parking operations in-house actually created new jobs at the resort. Paid valet parking has been criticized by some valet parking employees who claim it reduces the willingness of customers to offer tips.

Company officials declined to confirm when the policy was implemented or say how much revenue they expected to earn from the new fees or when they might raise prices.

The Cosmopolitan is only the latest resort to begin charging for valet and self-parking. Last year, MGM Resorts led the way last year, and Caesars Entertainment followed through with its promise to begin charging at many of its resorts this year.

Caesars has continued to offer free self-parking for locals, something neither the MGM nor the Cosmopolitan was willing to do.
