Henderson Police identify officer involved in shooting

Henderson Police today released the name of an officer they say fired a shot after a car rammed a patrol vehicle last week following a brief chase.

Police identified him as Officer Marc Rasmussen, 38, who has been with the department since February 2015. He has been placed on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of a review of the incident, police said.

Nobody was injured in the shooting, which occurred shortly after 5 a.m. Friday, police said.

A patrol officer pulled over Robert Clark, 40, and a passenger, Courtney Ellis, 33, both suspects wanted in connection with multiple burglaries and “fraudulent-related activities,” near Atlantic and Pacific avenues, police said.

Clark, who was driving a red 1995 Cadillac DeVille, fled the scene after initially stopping, prompting a short chase, police said.

Clark subsequently rammed a patrol vehicle in the 200 block of Bismark Way, and Rasmussen fired one round from his duty weapon, missing Clark, police said.

Clark and Ellis were taken into custody without further incident, police said.

They were booked at the Henderson Detention Center on various burglary, conspiracy and fraud-related counts, police said. Clark also faces a count of battery with a deadly weapon (vehicle) and felony evading, police said.
