Nevada unemployment inches up to 5 percent in October

CARSON CITY — Unemployment in Nevada inched up to 5 percent in October from the previous month, the state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported today. The unemployment rate in September was 4.9 percent.

Nevada’s jobless rate trails the national average of 4.1 percent.

The report shows an unemployment rate of 5.5 percent for men and 4.8 percent for woman.

Gov. Brian Sandoval noted that the unemployment rate in Nevada reached a high of nearly 14 percent during the recession, calling the turnaround “a remarkable accomplishment.”
