A man was killed early today when the SUV he was driving ran off the road and overturned in the desert west of Las Vegas, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Douglas Baird, 58, of Las Vegas was headed north about 12:25 a.m. on State Route 160 near Mountain Springs when the SUV ran onto the dirt median, the patrol said. He overcorrected, and the vehicle spun onto the right shoulder, where it overturned in the desert, the patrol said.
Baird, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected, the patrol said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation, the patrol said.
