The Shadow Ridge High football team has been in this spot before.

The Mustangs used 209 rushing yards and three touchdowns from senior Aubrey Nellems tonight in a 35-7 victory against Centennial, improving to 3-1 overall in the Northeast League.

They have three league games remaining — win one game, they make the playoffs. Win two or more and Shadow Ridge could host a home playoff game. It had the same record last year after four league games, but failed to make the postseason.

“We are a better football team than a year ago,” coach Travis Foster said. “Our kids are going to need to want it because nobody is going to give you anything in the Northwest.”

The remaining games are against Faith Lutheran, Legacy and Palo Verde — teams also eyeing the playoffs.

“We were in the same boat last year,” Foster said.

Kody Presser rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.
