Department of Transportation already planning for Raider stadium

CARSON CITY — The bonds haven’t been sold yet to finance construction of the Raiders football stadium, but the state Department of Transportation is already planning for road improvements in the area.

Assistant Transportation Director John Terry said today that the agency was planning to make the improvements before the Raiders announced their move to Las Vegas, but the stadium project prompted officials to expedite the road work.

Terry told the state Transportation Board an environmental assessment would take two years to complete, while acquiring needed property would take 18 months. He said he didn’t anticipate money for construction until 2020-2021.
