Letters to the Editor:

Weapons simply too destructive

The indiscriminate killing of concertgoers Oct. 1 demonstrated the lethality of military-style assault weapons when used for a purpose befitting their design. The overwhelming rain of firepower imposed by a single individual using a previously banned weapon could have been much more effective. Republicans overturned the assault weapon ban and were in the process of passing NRA-backed legislation to make silencers legal for all weapons. Just think of how much more effective the efforts of Stephen Paddock would have been had his victims not had any idea from which direction the hail of bullets was coming.

Fifty-eight dead, nearly 500 wounded, 11 minutes.
